About the Journal
Gemeinschaft: Journal of Social and Community Engagement is a peer-reviewed, multidisciplinary academic journal dedicated to advancing scholarship, practice, and innovation in social and community engagement. The journal provides an international scholarly platform for researchers, academics, practitioners, policymakers, civil society organizations, and community representatives to disseminate and critically discuss knowledge, experiences, and innovative practices that contribute to meaningful community participation, empowerment, and sustainable social development.
The journal welcomes scholarly contributions that examine community engagement from diverse disciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, community empowerment and development; education and literacy; social innovation; community-based research; participatory action research; service learning; public health and social well-being; local economic development and entrepreneurship; environmental sustainability; digital inclusion and technology; cultural and local wisdom; rural and urban community development; social inclusion; youth and women's empowerment; disaster resilience; governance and public participation; and other emerging issues related to community engagement and social transformation.
Gemeinschaft particularly encourages manuscripts that demonstrate meaningful collaboration between academic institutions and communities and that provide evidence of the processes, outcomes, impacts, and sustainability of community engagement initiatives. Contributions may include empirical studies, community-based research, participatory and action-oriented studies, theoretical and conceptual papers, case studies, program evaluations, policy analyses, and critical reflections on community engagement practices.
The journal seeks to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and community practice by encouraging the exchange of knowledge across disciplines, sectors, and geographical contexts. It values approaches that are participatory, inclusive, context-sensitive, evidence-based, and responsive to real-world community needs. Through this orientation, Gemeinschaft aims to strengthen partnerships among universities, communities, government institutions, non-governmental organizations, private sectors, and other stakeholders in addressing complex social challenges.
